I don’t recall ever watching Arness’ TV claim to fame, Gunsmoke — even though it was on-air for 20 years — but Them! and The Thing from Another World are first-ballot enshrined in my 50s Horror/Sci-Fi Hall of Fame.

More of a good thing isn’t always as effective. Sure, the concept is clever as hell, but the originally aired cut reminds us how smart creative decisions and editing can transform clever into brilliant.

Although it doesn’t necessarily remind us what the commercial’s trying to sell.

Hollywood Reporter: Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep Team For 'August'

Tracy Letts’ Tony-winning August: Osage County followed the tradition of original Steppenwolf Theatre Company productions which exploded onto the world stage. Its post-Broadway national tour, with Estelle Parsons portraying the dysfunctional family’s matriarch, pounced on L.A. in ‘09, and didn’t disappoint.

Of course, film is a different beast entirely. But this bit of casting news bodes well.
