"Support Your Local Food Trucks" Poster

Chicago artisan/designer/handcrafter retailer The Haymaker Shop commissioned the piece for a recent food and art event.

Know Your Flag designer Meng Yang puts the pedal to the griddle (and has a small but vibrant collection of other Chicago-centric designs for sale at his site).

Revolutions Mural X In Chicago

Urban beautification at its most socio-politically conscious, from Shepard Fairey. Hope to see it in person — at the Lake Shore Drive viaduct and Grand Avenue — before it’s dismantled in October.

Chicago Tribune: Beneath This Bubble, A Book Storing Marvel

Helmut Jahn’s proposed design for the new University of Chicago Mansueto Library.

Futuristic echoes of Logan’s Run and Silent Running, and what could prove to be another gem for a city already seen as an architectural mecca.

Chicago Airport Music Tracker

You’re traveling through O’Hare, maybe Midway. Your flight’s been delayed… again. You eat another overpriced meal at the neon-gasm food court thunderdome. Amid the grating gate call overlap, you hear a tune piped through the loudspeakers you can’t get out of your head all the way to your final destination.

Now you can find out what it was, thanks to the Chicago Music Commission.

This Week’s Canceled DVR ‘Season Passes’

A network programming schedule, low and no ratings bloodbath:

  • The Chicago Code - Loved to see the city get its props, but the characters started to feel like set dressing too. Canceled by FOX.
  • The Defenders - The Belushi/O’Connell chemistry couldn’t overcome the bland case load. Canceled by CBS.
  • Detroit 187 - It took about 18 episodes to shake off its NYPD Blue conventions. But then it was too late. Canceled by ABC.
  • The Event - The West Wing met The X-Files… about 10 years ago. Canceled by NBC.
  • Law & Order: LA - So it wasn’t Skeet’s fault, after all. Canceled by NBC.
  • No Ordinary Family - Liked the premise. Could never get past “Vic Mackey” marrying lovely Julie Benz and playing the doting, “clobberin’ time” dad. Canceled by ABC.
  • V - Perhaps when the real hostile alien invasion actually arrives, we’ll just send a team of network execs to thwart them in nothing flat. Canceled by ABC.

Chicago Tribune: Rahm Emanuel Sworn In As Chicago's New Mayor

As a generation only knows Richard M. Daley in the office, it’ll be interesting to see what legacy Emanuel can set in motion quickly to stake his own claim. Daley’s fingerprints and footprints are everywhere in the city.

Chicago Tribune: Job As Cubs PA Announcer Is Dream Come True For 24-Year-Old Suburban Kid

Here I was, just joking about giving it a go (well, maybe a little bit serious), and this kid makes it all the way to the prize. How awesome is that, huh?
