“LaPorte, Indiana” Trailer
Tucked away in the back room of a B&J’s American Cafe lies a secret history waiting to be discovered: 18,000 dog-eared studio portraits from the 1950s and 60s. From baby pictures to graduation shots to young soldiers heading off to war and beyond, each of these photos hints at a personal story waiting to be told.
Compelling core concept for a documentary. (via)
“American: The Bill Hicks Story” Trailer
Comedic buzzsaw brilliance cut down way too soon. Listening to his routines, you couldn’t help but come away a bit smarter.
“Journey of the Childmen” Trailer
Documentary from filmmaker Oliver Ralfe peeks behind the curtain during The Mighty Boosh’s 2009 “Future Sailors” Tour. Missed the L.A. screening. Can’t see it getting much of a full-scale theatrical release in the States, so I guess there’s a DVD purchase in my future.
Actual comic genius/madness captured on film.
“Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage” Trailer
The feature-length documentary won the Audience Award at the Tribeca Film Festival in May.
Looking forward to the segment covering Geddy Lee’s vocals on “Take Off,” the single from Bob & Doug McKenzie’s 1981 The Great White North LP. Or maybe not.
Anvil: The Story of Anvil Trailer
Can’t recommend this documentary enough. It doesn’t matter if you’re a heavy metal fan or not. It’s about believing in a dream. Funny. Poignant. 1000% Rock ‘n Roll.
Making a spot for it on my DVD shelf.

“Between-the-grooves” documentaries like these are pure ear candy. Rent “Tom Dowd & The Language of Music”
