Mmm, steamed pork.
Oh noes… the evil, over-reaching Government wants to literally put its fingers in your pie to keep the food you eat safe.
Check out this effective campaign before cuts-happy Republicants slash the agency’s funding. (via)

Get over it… We’re magnificent, we’re going to continue to be… Let’s just move on, treat everybody with firmness, fairness, dignity, compassion and respect. Let’s be Marines.

Oorah!
And there was much rejuicing, especially from the “Other White Meat” folks at the National Pork Council.
USDA is lowering the recommended safe cooking temperature for whole cuts of pork from 160 °F to 145 °F and adding a three-minute rest time. The safe temperature for cuts of beef, veal, and lamb remains unchanged at 145 °F, but the department is adding a three-minute rest time as part of its cooking recommendations. Cooking raw pork, steaks, roasts, and chops to 145 °F with the addition of a three-minute rest time will result in a product that is both microbiologically safe and at its best quality. — USDA Press Release, March 24, 2011

Kudos to the CDC for tapping into popular culture’s fascination with the walking dead to draw eyeballs to the serious topic of disaster preparedness, especially with recent events in NoLa, Haiti, Japan and Tornado Alley.
Gee, big surprise that Republicants, once back in power (however marginalized it may be in the U.S. House of Representatives) would wage war on any and all federally funded social and educationally vital programs.
It’s bad enough they’re firing U.S. teachers to stave off state and local government budget crises. But hey, if American students’ education suffers, so be it: China’s gonna need a servant class when they take over the world anyway.
But, as usual, lawmakers are tone (and stone) deaf to what their constituents want and support.

Perhaps concerned voters should contact their elected officials and urge them to draft legislation prohibiting the kids and grandkids of Republicants voting to defund Public Broadcasting from watching Sesame Street.
The Letter of the Day is “hypocrite.”
If only Boehner wept as copiously for the poor and the sick as he does when confessing his own greatness.
Roger Ebert, on Twitter (November 11, 2010)

U.S. House Minority Leader John Boehner “crying” on CBS’ 60 Minutes. An unsettling and curious tack taken whenever it best suits him and the political optics.
Perhaps one of his Big Pharma campaign contributors can get him a deal on antidepressants for the coming 112th Congress.
